Sommerhaven Farm is beginning to offer humans the opportunity to spend time with equines. This time can be about learning, understanding and connecting with ground work or in the saddle (or both).
Stephanie’s Background
As a child, Stephanie rode whenever possible, taking lessons at Rouge Hill Stables, riding donkeys on the beach in Weston Super Mare and inserting herself into any and all horse events run by the stable that was within walking distance of her grandparent’s home in England each summer.
While at university in Michigan, Stephanie found a hunter/jumper barn and soon purchased her first horse, naming him Leviticus (everyone called him Levi). Together, Stephanie and Levi rode in the Hunt each Fall, showed with the Lake Michigan Hunter/Jumper Association and generally had a blast together.
For 31 years, Stephanie worked as a teacher of blind/visually impaired students with York Region Board of Education. Throughout those years of teaching she was deeply involved with horses, having them at home, riding and working at a local equestrian centre, taking lessons and teaching lessons.
Hunter/jumper was Steph’s main focus but hacking has always been her passion, mostly because hacking is the favourite of the horses.
